Adèle Geras

Adele Geras is a British writer born in 1944 in Jerusalem, then under British Mandate, who studied modern languages at St Hilda's College, Oxford. Since the mid-1970s she has published more than ninety-five books for children, young adults, and adults, alongside poetry. Her retellings of Greek myth and epic, including Troy, shortlisted for the Whitbread Prize and highly commended for the Carnegie Medal, and Ithaka, sit alongside contemporary novels such as The Tower Room, the first of her Egerton Hall trilogy. She has won the Sydney Taylor Book Award for My Grandmother's Stories and the National Jewish Book Award for Golden Windows, and was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 2014. She continues to write and has appeared as a contestant on the BBC quiz show University Challenge.
