Alan Ryan

Alan Ryan (1943-2011) was an American horror writer and editor born in the Bronx, New York. After working as a book reviewer for the New York Times, he turned to fiction; his story "Sheets," drawn from his own stint as a department-store sheets salesman, was reprinted in the Year's Best Horror anthology and earned him a John W. Campbell Award nomination for Best New Writer. His novels include Panther!, The Kill, Dead White, and Cast a Cold Eye, and he won the World Fantasy Award for Best Short Story for "The Bones Wizard." He also edited several anthologies, including Perpetual Light and Night Visions: In the Blood. Ryan, who had Irish ancestry, died of pancreatic cancer in Rio de Janeiro in 2011.
