Alex Irvine is an American writer of fantasy and science fiction, born in 1969 in Ypsilanti, Michigan. He holds degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Maine, and a PhD from the University of Denver, and taught as an assistant professor of English at the University of Maine from 2005 to 2011. His debut novel, A Scattering of Jades (2002), won the Locus Award for Best First Novel and the Crawford Award; he followed it with One King, One Soldier and the World War II-era historical fantasy The Narrows. Irvine has also written extensively for comics, including Daredevil Noir, and produced numerous media tie-in novels for franchises such as Transformers, Iron Man, Batman, and Marvel's Avengers; he won the 2015 Scribe Award for Best Adapted Novel for his novelization of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.
