Alexander Jablokov (born 1956) is an American science fiction writer from Chicago, Illinois. He worked as a communications engineer in Boston before turning to full-time writing in 1988, later balancing fiction with marketing work. His novels, including Carve the Sky, A Deeper Sea, Nimbus, River of Dust, and Deepdrive, are known for dense, idea-driven plotting that pairs hard science-fictional speculation with mystery and thriller structures, while his story collection The Breath of Suspension gathered his shorter work from the era. After a period away from novels he returned with Brain Thief, and has continued to publish short fiction in Asimov's Science Fiction, maintaining a reputation as a meticulous builder of unusual, fully realized future societies.
