Alexis A. Gilliland

Alexis A. Gilliland is an American science fiction writer and cartoonist, born in 1931 in Bangor, Maine, and long resident in Arlington, Virginia. He won the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 1982 and is also a fixture of science-fiction fandom, having won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist four times. His fiction centers on two comic series: the Rosinante novels (The Revolution from Rosinante, Long Shot for Rosinante, The Pirates of Rosinante), following an independent-minded orbital colony's turbulent politics under an increasingly self-aware computer, and the Wizenbeak books (Wizenbeak, The End of the Empire, Lord of the Troll-Bats, The Shadow Shaia), which follow a wizard maneuvering through court intrigue in a fractious kingdom. For decades he and his first wife hosted regular gatherings of Washington-area science-fiction fans in their home.
