b. 1962

Andrew Smith is a Scottish screenwriter, playwright, and novelist born in 1962, best known for his early work on the BBC science fiction series Doctor Who. At seventeen he wrote the television serial Full Circle, broadcast in 1980 as part of the show's eighteenth season; his own novelisation of the story was published by Target Books in 1982. After limited success in television, Smith left the industry to join the police force, returning decades later to Doctor Who as a writer of audio dramas for Big Finish Productions, alongside genre audio work adapting Survivors and Star Cops. His novelisation of Full Circle remains a staple of the long-running Target range of Doctor Who tie-in fiction, reissued in later story collections for new generations of readers.
