Anselm Audley is a British author born in 1982 who began writing his debut fantasy novel while still at school, completing it at age seventeen. Heresy, the first volume of his Aquasilva trilogy, was published in 2001 on a large advance from Simon & Schuster UK, reportedly one of the largest ever paid to a new British fantasy author at the time; the trilogy continued with Inquisition and Crusade and was translated into German, French, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch. Set on the waterworld of Aquasilva, the trilogy established Audley as one of the youngest authors published by a major fantasy imprint. He later wrote Envoy, a shorter work imagining Attila the Hun's invasion, and studied Ancient and Modern History at St John's College, Oxford, before moving into narrative nonfiction.
