Bill Willingham

Bill Willingham is an American comics writer and artist, born William Willingham in 1956 at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He began his career in the late 1970s as a staff artist for TSR, illustrating role-playing game products, and gained prominence in the 1980s writing and drawing the creator-owned series Elementals for Comico. He is best known for Fables, launched through DC Comics' Vertigo imprint in 2002 and running 162 issues through 2024, along with its spin-off Jack of Fables, co-written with Lilah Sturges; the series won Will Eisner Comic Industry Awards for best serialized story and best new series in 2003. Willingham won the Eisner Award for Best Writer in 2009, and has also contributed to Robin, Batman, and Justice Society of America.
