Brendan Connell

Brendan Connell is an American author and translator, born in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 1970. His fiction moves through horror and fantasy but is often described as unclassifiable or avant-garde, with a dense, ornate prose style that critics have compared to J. K. Huysmans and Angela Carter; some of his shorter pieces, collected in Metrophilias, have been read as prose poetry. His novel The Translation of Father Torturo follows an ambitious, morally compromised priest's rise through the Vatican, while The Architect and the linked stories gathered as The Metanatural Adventures of Dr. Black explore stranger, more fantastical territory. Connell has also edited anthologies of occult fiction, including the Occult Fiction Color Anthologies, and translated works from French and Italian. His influences include Balzac and Pierre Alexis Ponson du Terrail, and he has written lyrics for the Serbian band Kodagain.
