C. K. McDonnell is the pen name Irish writer Caimh McDonnell uses for his supernatural fiction, kept separate from the comic crime novels he publishes under his own name. Born in Limerick in 1975 and raised in Dublin, he spent years as a stand-up comedian and television writer — credits include Have I Got News for You, Mock the Week, and the BAFTA-nominated children's series Pet Squad, which he created — before turning to novels full-time. As C. K. McDonnell he writes The Stranger Times, a comic urban-fantasy series following the staff of a struggling newspaper that covers the paranormal underbelly of Manchester, beginning with This Charming Man. The series' audio drama adaptation won Best Audio at the 2023 British Fantasy Awards, and it has since been optioned for television.
