Candas Jane Dorsey

Candas Jane Dorsey (born 1952) is a Canadian poet, novelist, and editor from Edmonton, Alberta, whose work spans poetry, science fiction, journalism, and scripts. Her best-known novel, Black Wine (1997), a feminist fantasy about memory, slavery, and a woman's search for identity across a matriarchal world, swept several major genre prizes, including the Otherwise Award, the Crawford Award, and the Aurora Award for Best Novel. She has also published the anthology series Tesseracts: Canadian Science Fiction as an editor and the story collection Ice & Other Stories, which Locus named among the best short-story collections of 2018. Dorsey was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Association's Hall of Fame in 2018, recognizing a career that has helped define modern Canadian speculative fiction.
