Carole Wilkinson is an English-born Australian author of children's and young-adult fiction, born in 1950 in Derby, England, and raised in Australia from age twelve. After working as a laboratory assistant until her forties, she returned to study and began writing professionally, eventually publishing historical adventure series set in ancient Egypt (the Ramose books) and imperial China. Her best-known work is the Dragonkeeper series, beginning with Dragonkeeper (2003), which follows a slave girl and an ancient dragon fleeing through Han-dynasty China; it won the 2003 Aurealis Award and the 2004 Children's Book Council of Australia Book of the Year Award, among other honors. She later added the Dragonkeeper Prequels to the series and has also written for television and nonfiction.
