Cary Neeper

Cary Neeper (born 1937 in Oakland, California) is an American science-fiction author with a background in the sciences: she studied zoology, chemistry, and religion at Pomona College before doing graduate work in medical microbiology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is best known for the Archives of Varok series, a hard-science-fiction sequence that includes A Place Beyond Man, The Webs of Varok — a Nautilus Book Award silver medalist — The Alien Effect, and An Alien's Quest, following first contact between humanity and an alien civilization in an alternate Solar System. A proponent of sustainability and steady-state economics since the 1970s, Neeper folds environmental and ecological themes into her fiction. Beyond her novels, she paints the cover art for her own books, composes musicals, and writes a column for the Los Alamos Daily Post.
