Clare B. Dunkle

Clare B. Dunkle is an American author and librarian born June 11, 1964, in Fort Worth, Texas, who holds a B.A. in Russian from Trinity University and an M.L.S. from Indiana University Bloomington. She is best known for the Hollow Kingdom trilogy — The Hollow Kingdom, Close Kin, and In the Coils of the Snake — which reworks goblin folklore into a romantic fantasy about a young woman drawn into marriage with a goblin king; The Hollow Kingdom won the 2004 Mythopoeic Fantasy Award for Children's Literature. She followed it with the dystopian Sky Inside series and the standalone gothic novel The House of Dead Maids. Dunkle later co-authored the memoir Elena Vanishing with her daughter, chronicling her daughter's struggle with anorexia, drawing on years she spent living in Germany's Rheinland-Pfalz region.
