D. J. Butler

D. J. Butler, full name David John Butler, is an American speculative fiction author and former lawyer who holds a law degree from New York University. After more than a decade practicing law, including in-house work for Micron Technology, he turned to writing full-time, later also working as a corporate trainer and senior editor for Ark Press. He is best known for the Witchy Eye series, an epic flintlock fantasy reimagining early-1800s America with magic and rival factions; its sequel Witchy Kingdom won the 2020 Dragon Award for Best Alternate History Novel, and Witchy Winter won a 2018 Whitney Award and AML Award. Butler also writes the steampunk-Western City of the Saints series and the sword-and-sorcery Indrajit and Fix stories, and has contributed middle-grade fiction. He lives with his wife and four children and is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
