b. 1939 · Rochester, New York, USA

Dan Cragg is an American writer of military science fiction, born in Rochester, New York, in 1939. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1980 and later worked in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, experience that grounds the tactical detail and chain-of-command realism of his fiction. With David Sherman he co-created the Starfist series, beginning with First to Fight (1997), a long-running sequence of space-marine combat novels that expanded into the Force Recon sub-series; the two also collaborated on the Star Wars tie-in novel Jedi Trial (2004). Cragg has also published military nonfiction distinct from his genre fiction.
