Daniel da Cruz

Daniel da Cruz (1921-1991) was an American author born in Oxford, Ohio, known for military fiction and adventure novels. His novel The Captive City was shortlisted for the Edgar Award for Best Paperback Original, and his nonfiction account Boot, about Marine Corps recruit training, is counted among notable American military books alongside works like Ron Kovic's Born on the Fourth of July. Da Cruz is best known in genre fiction for his Republic of Texas series, a near-future political-adventure sequence imagining an independent, breakaway Texas, including The Ayes of Texas, Texas Triumphant, and Texas on the Rocks. He also wrote The Grotto of the Formigans and the technothriller F-Cubed. Da Cruz's fiction consistently combined a journalist's eye for institutional detail with high-adventure, near-future political premises.
