David Macinnis Gill

David Macinnis Gill (born 1963 in American Falls, Idaho) is an American author of young-adult fiction and a professor of English education at the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Before turning to fiction he worked as a house painter, cafeteria manager, bookstore clerk, high school teacher, and university lecturer, and he holds a doctorate in education alongside a bachelor's degree in English and creative writing. His early nonfiction credit was a critical biography of children's author Graham Salisbury. Gill's fiction debut, Soul Enchilada (2009), drew acclaim for its blend of demon-hunting and Texas gothic humor, and he followed it with the Durango series, which opens with Black Hole Sun and follows a mercenary navigating a terraformed, outlaw-ridden Mars through Invisible Sun and later installments.
