Debi Gliori

Debi Gliori is a Scottish writer and illustrator of children's books, born in Glasgow in 1959. She studied at Edinburgh College of Art in the early 1980s before working as a freelance illustrator, signing with the publisher Walker Books in 1989 and going on to write and illustrate picture books including the Mr Bear series -- with Mr Bear to the Rescue shortlisted for the Kate Greenaway Medal -- and What's the Time, Mr Wolf?. For older readers she created the Pure Dead series, a black comedy about the eccentric, magic-wielding Strega-Borgia family, beginning with Pure Dead Magic (2001), and its companion Witch Baby and Me books. Her honors include the Red House Children's Book Award and an honorary doctorate from the University of Strathclyde. She lives in Haddington, East Lothian, with a large family.
