Dirk Strasser

Dirk Strasser is a German-born Australian author and editor, born in 1959 in Offenbach, who moved to Australia as a child. He co-founded the science fiction and fantasy magazine Aurealis in 1990, co-editing it until 2001 before taking over as full editor when it moved online in 2011, and compiled anthologies drawn from its archives. As a novelist he is best known for the Ascension trilogy—Zenith, Equinox, and Eclipse—which blends supernatural horror with fantasy across a span of two decades between its first and last volumes. His other fiction includes the young-adult novella Graffiti, the short story collection Stories of the Sand, and the historical fantasy Conquist, which sends conquistadors and Incas through a dimensional portal in sixteenth-century Peru. Strasser remains a significant figure in Australian speculative fiction both as a writer and an editor.
