Donald E. McQuinn

Donald E. McQuinn (born 1930) is an American novelist from Winthrop, Massachusetts, who served twenty years in the U.S. Marine Corps, retiring as a major in 1971, before turning to fiction. His best-known work is the post-apocalyptic Moondark Saga—Warrior (1990), Wanderer (1993), and Witch (1994)—following a wandering warrior and mystic through a fractured, tribal far-future America rebuilding itself after civilization's collapse. He also wrote the Captain Lannat military science fiction novels, With Full Honors and The Prisoner Within, and earlier war novels drawing on his military service, including Targets, set during the Vietnam War, and Wake in Darkness, set in the Philippines. In 1998 McQuinn survived sudden cardiac arrest in Hawaii, becoming the first person saved by the local police department's newly deployed defibrillators.
