Dorothy Hoobler

Dorothy Hoobler is an American author born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1941, who writes in collaboration with her husband, Thomas Hoobler. Together they created the Samurai Detective series, a historical mystery sequence for young readers set in eighteenth-century Japan and featuring the real historical magistrate Ooka Tadasuke; the series opens with The Ghost in the Tokaido Inn and continues through The Demon in the Teahouse, In Darkness, Death, and Seven Paths to Death. The Hooblers have also written nonfiction, including The Japanese American Family Album, reflecting a shared interest in Japanese and Japanese American history that runs through much of their work.
