Dorothy Madlee

Dorothy Madlee was an American science-fiction author, born in Springfield, Missouri, in 1917, who began publishing genre fiction in 1946 with stories including "Moon Phantoms" in Weird Tales and "Crystal of Macaosu" in Fantastic Universe. She is remembered chiefly for her collaboration with Andre Norton on the Star Ka'at series for young readers, four books published between 1976 and 1981 that follow the arrival of intelligent, telepathic alien cats on Earth. Some accounts of Norton's late career suggest that, as with several of her other collaborators in this period, Madlee may have done much of the actual writing on the series credited to both names. Madlee died in 1980.
