Douglas Orgill (1922 to 1984) was a British writer born in Walsall, Staffordshire. He is known for two speculative disaster novels co-written with the popular-science writer John Gribbin: The Sixth Winter (1979), which imagines a volcanic eruption triggering a sudden new ice age, and its follow-up Brother Esau (1982). The novels paired Gribbin's grounding in climatology and geophysics with Orgill's narrative craft to dramatize the human and political fallout of abrupt climate catastrophe, part of a wave of scientifically literate disaster fiction in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
