Edward Ashton is an American science fiction author, born in Fairfax, Virginia, in 1968, best known for the Mickey7 series. The first novel, Mickey7 (2022), follows an expendable crew member on a colony expedition who is repeatedly killed and regenerated with his memories restored, only to find himself confronted by an unauthorized duplicate of himself; it was adapted into the 2025 film Mickey 17, directed by Bong Joon-ho. Its sequel, Antimatter Blues (2023), continues the story. Ashton's other work spans a range of science fiction: The End of Ordinary (2017) follows a near-future society disrupted by genetic engineering, Mal Goes to War (2024) follows a body-hopping artificial intelligence, and The Fourth Consort (2025) is a first-contact space opera. His fiction consistently favors a light, first-person narrative voice even when its premises turn dark, a tone that carried over successfully into the Mickey7 film adaptation.
