Ehigbor Okosun is a Nigerian novelist of young adult fantasy who began writing her debut novel during a break from school. Forged by Blood (2023), published by Harper Voyage, draws on Nigerian and Yoruba mythology and centers on Demi, who kidnaps a crown prince in an attempt to win freedom for her oppressed magical community, the Oluso; it received starred reviews from Publishers Weekly and Booklist, which called it an impressive and refreshingly original page-turner recommended for fans of Tomi Adeyemi and Rebecca Ross. The novel, the first installment of the Tainted Blood duology, explores themes of political struggle, race, class, and oppression within its West African-inspired setting, and was followed by a sequel, Exiled by Iron (2024).
