Elizabeth George

Elizabeth George is an American novelist born in 1949 in Warren, Ohio, best known internationally for her long-running Inspector Lynley series pairing aristocratic Scotland Yard detective Thomas Lynley with working-class Sergeant Barbara Havers, a series adapted for television by the BBC. A former English teacher, she became a full-time writer after her 1988 debut A Great Deliverance won the Agatha and Anthony Awards. In the catalog she appears for her Whidbey Island Saga, a young-adult quartet beginning with The Edge of Nowhere, which follows a girl relocated to a Washington island who discovers she can hear other people's thoughts through touch, blending George's gift for psychological suspense with a coming-of-age story for teen readers. George has also written nonfiction on the craft of writing and established a foundation supporting emerging writers.
