Elizabeth Hand is an American author born in 1957 known for fiction that blends science fiction, fantasy, and literary sensibility. Her early Winterlong trilogy established her reputation for dense, mythic post-apocalyptic settings, and novels such as Waking the Moon (1994) and Glimmering (1997) followed with similarly ambitious blends of myth and speculative futures. She writes the Cass Neary crime series, beginning with Generation Loss (2007), and in 2023 published A Haunting on the Hill, an authorized sequel to Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. Hand has won numerous genre awards, including multiple World Fantasy Awards, Nebula Awards for best novella and best short story, several Shirley Jackson Awards, and both the Tiptree and Mythopoeic Fantasy Awards for Waking the Moon. She has also written media tie-in and film novelizations.
