Elizabeth May is an American author born in 1987 who moved to Scotland to pursue a PhD in anthropology at the University of St Andrews and has lived there since. She began writing during a period of seasonal depression and is best known for The Falconer trilogy, a Victorian-Edinburgh fantasy following aristocrat-turned-monster-hunter Aileana Kameron, later revised and rereleased. She followed with the space-opera Seven Devils duology, co-written with Laura Lam and described by May as 'Mad Max: Fury Road, in space,' and in 2024 published To Cage a God, a Slavic-mythology-inspired fantasy beginning the These Monstrous Gods series. May also writes romantic fiction under the pen name Kristina Kendrick. She favors fierce, morally compromised heroines and richly atmospheric worldbuilding, whether in gaslamp Edinburgh or in deep space.
