Emet North

Emet North is an American writer whose debut novel, In Universes (2024), won the Otherwise Award, given for science fiction and fantasy that expands or explores understanding of gender. The novel follows a young woman across branching parallel lives shaped by different choices, using its multiverse structure to examine how much of what a person wants is truly their own versus absorbed from the people and world around them. Critics noted its kinship with earlier feminist speculative fiction: Locus compared it to the work of Joanna Russ and Marge Piercy, and Esquire named it one of the best science fiction novels of 2024. North uses they/them pronouns.
