Emily M. Danforth

Emily M. Danforth is an American novelist born in 1980 in Miles City, Montana, and raised there before coming out during college at Hofstra University. She holds an MFA from the University of Montana and a PhD from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Her debut novel, The Miseducation of Cameron Post (2012), follows a teenage girl sent to a gay conversion-therapy camp in 1990s Montana and was adapted into a 2018 film starring Chloë Grace Moretz. Danforth's second novel, Plain Bad Heroines (2020), interweaves a cursed early-twentieth-century New England boarding school with a present-day Hollywood film production haunted by the same deaths. Her fiction is known for its wit and its focus on queer coming-of-age experience. She lives in Providence, Rhode Island, with her wife.
