Emily Suvada

Emily Suvada is an Australian author of young-adult science fiction. She studied mathematics and astrophysics before working in finance, then returned to her early love of writing and speculative storytelling. She is best known for the Mortal Coil trilogy—This Mortal Coil, This Cruel Design, and This Vicious Cure—a biopunk thriller set after a genetically engineered virus devastates the world, following a hacker who must master gene-editing technology to survive. The debut novel won the Oregon Spirit Book Award and was shortlisted for prizes including the Aurealis Award, the Waterstones Children's Book Prize, and the Readings Young Adult Book Prize. Suvada's fiction explores genetic engineering, artificial intelligence, and the ethics of body modification. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband.
