Emma Mieko Candon

Emma Mieko Candon is an American writer of Japanese descent working in speculative fiction, including tie-in and original science fiction. She is best known for Star Wars: Visions -- Ronin, a novel expanding the anime-style Star Wars Visions short "The Duel" into a full narrative, notable for introducing a predominantly LGBTQ+ cast to the franchise, including its first transgender male character. Candon's original science fiction novel The Archive Undying (2023) explores artificial intelligence and consciousness through a queer protagonist navigating a decaying, digitally haunted city-state. Her fiction consistently foregrounds queer identity and representation within speculative and tie-in settings not traditionally associated with it, and she began writing through a collaborative blog she started with friends in high school.
