Erika Swyler

Erika Swyler is an American novelist whose fiction moves between literary realism and speculative premises. Her debut, The Book of Speculation, interweaves a hereditary curse among circus performers with a present-day librarian investigating his family's past, and became a national bestseller. She followed it with Light from Other Stars, threading a small-town Florida childhood together with a stalled space mission, and We Lived on the Horizon, a work of speculative fiction set in a stratified future city. Swyler's essays and short fiction have appeared in Catapult, Literary Hub, VIDA, and The New York Times. She lives on Long Island, New York, with her husband, where she also bakes, runs, and maintains strong opinions about typewriters.
