Eugen Bacon is a Tanzanian-born, Australian-based author of speculative fiction, born Eugen Matoyo near Mount Kilimanjaro. Raised partly in Nairobi before returning to Tanzania for boarding school, she later lived in the United Kingdom before settling in Melbourne. She holds degrees in information technology and computing alongside an MA and PhD in writing, and worked in corporate IT before establishing herself in black speculative fiction and Afrofuturism. Her books include Claiming T-Mo, Danged Black Thing, Ivory's Story, Broken Paradise, and Serengotti, alongside the Fission anthology series. Her nonfiction and criticism have earned her the British Fantasy, BSFA, Ignyte, Locus, and Kate Wilhelm Solstice awards between 2023 and 2025.
