Frank Schätzing

Frank Schätzing (born 1957) is a German novelist from Cologne known for meticulously researched science thrillers. After studying communication studies and running an advertising agency, he turned to fiction and found international success with The Swarm (2004), a sprawling eco-thriller in which marine life turns against humanity in response to ocean disruption; the novel won Germany's Deutscher Science-Fiction-Preis and Kurd-Laßwitz-Preis and became a bestseller across Europe. He followed it with Limit (2009), a near-future thriller spanning a lunar helium-3 mining operation and a murder investigation on Earth. Schätzing's fiction blends hard science, geopolitics, and thriller pacing, often built around ecological or technological crisis. His earlier work includes the historical novel Death and the Devil (1995). He has received Italy's Bancarella Prize and the Corine International Book Prize.
