Freda Warrington is a British author of epic and dark fantasy born in Leicester, England. Trained at Loughborough College of Art and Design and formerly a medical illustrator, she draws on Hammer horror films and classic vampire literature for much of her fiction. Her Blood Wine series, beginning with A Taste of Blood Wine (1992), reworks vampire mythology across the twentieth century, while the earlier Blackbird series explores a darker parallel fantasy realm. Her novel Dracula the Undead (1997) won the Dracula Society's Children of the Night Award, and Elfland (2009), the first in her Aetherial Tales sequence set among elemental beings in Leicestershire, won the Romantic Times Reviewers' Choice Award for Fantasy Novel. She has also been shortlisted several times for the British Fantasy Award.
