Gavriel Savit is an American author, actor, and singer from Ann Arbor, Michigan, with a background in musical theater from the University of Michigan; before writing novels he performed as an entertainer on three continents. His debut, Anna and the Swallow Man (2016), won the Sydney Taylor Book Award for Teen Readers and an Odyssey Award for its audiobook, and was named the American Booksellers Association's Young Adult Book of the Year. His second novel, The Way Back (2020), won the National Jewish Book Award and was a National Book Award finalist for Young People's Literature. Both books draw on Jewish folklore and history, told in a fable-like, atmospheric style.
