Gloria Skurzynski

Gloria Skurzynski, born July 6, 1930, in Duquesne, Pennsylvania, is an American author of more than sixty books for young readers, spanning fiction and science nonfiction. She grew up during the Great Depression, worked as a statistical clerk after leaving college, and did not become a professional writer until 1979, after early rejections, before going on to a decades-long career; she now lives in Boise, Idaho. Genre readers know her chiefly for The Virtual War Chronologs, a near-future science-fiction series following genetically engineered teenagers navigating a world of remote warfare, environmental collapse, and questions of what makes someone human. Across her wider body of work she has received a Golden Kite Award, multiple Outstanding Science Trade Book honors from the National Science Teachers Association, and two Western Writers of America Golden Spur Awards for the novel Rockbuster.
