H. B. Fyfe

H. B. Fyfe (1918-1997) was an American science fiction author born in Jersey City, New Jersey. He published his first story, "Locked Out," in Astounding Science Fiction in 1940 and became a prolific contributor to the magazine after wartime military service, eventually publishing nearly sixty stories through 1967. Much of his work, including the "Bureau of Slick Tricks" series (1948-1952) and the novel D-99 (1962), exemplified the problem-solving adventure fiction favored by editor John W. Campbell Jr., typically featuring resourceful humans outwitting bureaucratic or overconfident alien adversaries. His stories have since been collected in retrospective anthologies such as the Golden Age of Science Fiction Megapack series.
