Hal Colebatch (1945-2019) was an Australian author, poet, historian, and lawyer from Perth, Western Australia, who also worked as a journalist, lecturer, and editor. Science fiction readers know him best for his many contributions to Larry Niven's shared Man-Kzin Wars series, set in the Known Space universe, including Man-Kzin Wars X: The Wunder War and Man-Kzin Wars XII, alongside standalone work such as Time Machine Troopers, an unofficial sequel to H. G. Wells. Colebatch also published eight poetry collections and wrote works of history and biography, including a life of his father, the Western Australian politician Sir Hal Colebatch. His collection The Light River won Western Australia's Premier's Book Award for poetry in 2008, and his history Australia's Secret War won the 2014 Prime Minister's Literary Award for history.
