Helen Grant

Helen Grant is a British novelist born in 1964 in Westminster, London, and now living in Crieff, Scotland. Educated in Classics at St Hugh's College, Oxford, she writes gothic and supernatural fiction with strong European settings, drawing on years spent living in Germany and Belgium. Her debut, The Vanishing of Katharina Linden, set in a small German town, won a 2011 Alex Award and was shortlisted for the Booktrust Teenage Prize and the CILIP Carnegie Medal. She continued in a similarly atmospheric vein with The Glass Demon and The Demons of Ghent, and her Forbidden Spaces Trilogy, beginning with Silent Saturday, follows a teenager investigating disappearances tied to abandoned buildings in Flanders. Grant has also translated E. T. A. Hoffmann's short fiction and contributed to horror magazines including Supernatural Tales and All Hallows.
