Holly Phillips is a Canadian writer of science fiction and fantasy, born in 1969 and raised in Nelson and Trail, British Columbia. Her fiction often blurs the line between the two genres, following protagonists caught in ambiguous, sometimes contradictory situations. She is best known for her short fiction collections In the Palace of Repose and At the Edge of Waking, and for the novels The Burning Girl and The Engine's Child. In the Palace of Repose won the Sunburst Award in 2006 and was a finalist for the International Horror Guild Award, while her story "The Other Grace" was a World Fantasy Award finalist the same year. Beyond fiction, Phillips served on the editorial board of the Canadian speculative fiction magazine On Spec and performs with the Celtic folk trio Pickled Thistle.
