Howard Weinstein

Howard Weinstein (born 1954) is an American writer best known within the Star Trek franchise, which he entered at nineteen while a student at the University of Connecticut, selling the animated episode "The Pirates of Orion" - to date the earliest professional sale by any writer of a Star Trek television script. That sale led to his first novel, The Covenant of the Crown (1981), for Pocket Books, and to further Star Trek novels including Deep Domain, Power Hungry, and the Mere Anarchy sequence, as well as licensed Star Trek comic book stories. He received an on-screen thank-you credit on Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home for introducing director Leonard Nimoy to the whale-themed premise that shaped the film. Weinstein has also written for other television and comics properties, including V, and remains a regular presence at science fiction conventions.
