Iver P. Cooper

Iver P. Cooper is a contributor to Eric Flint's 1632 series (also called the Ring of Fire series), an alternate-history franchise in which a modern American town is transported into the Thirty Years' War. Cooper has written extensively within this shared universe, including 1636: Seas of Fortune, 1636: The China Venture, and 1637: The Pacific Initiative, a sequel to his earlier novella Rising Sun, generally focusing on the series' expansion into East Asian and colonial trade storylines. Beyond the Ring of Fire novels, he has written The Chrysanthemum, the Cross, and the Dragon, an alternate history of Japanese contact with the West. Cooper's fiction is characterized by dense historical research applied to the series' premise of transplanted modern knowledge reshaping seventeenth-century geopolitics and trade.
