J. A. White

J. A. White is an American author born in 1974 in Staten Island, New York, best known for horror-inflected fantasy for young readers. He created The Thickety, a middle-grade horror fantasy series that began with A Path Begins, and followed it with the Shadow School series and the Nightbooks books. Beyond writing, White teaches language arts to children, work that has shaped his sense of what young readers want from a scary story: enough genuine dread to feel real stakes, without losing hope by the end. He has three sons. His novels blend fairy-tale logic with contemporary child protagonists navigating worlds that are frightening in earnest, a combination that has made him a recognizable voice in children's horror fantasy.
