J. Elle

J. Elle is an American author of young adult and middle-grade fiction who grew up in Houston's Third Ward. She holds a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in educational administration from George Washington University, and worked as an educator before turning to writing full time. Her debut, the Wings of Ebony duology, became a New York Times bestseller and earned her the Black Caucus of the American Library Association's 2022 First Novelist honor, along with an NAACP Image Award nomination. She is also known for the House of Marionne trilogy, a multi-list bestseller, the culinary middle-grade fantasy A Taste of Magic, and a novelization of Disney's The Little Mermaid, Against the Tide. Her fiction often explores ancestral trauma and institutional racism through fantasy.
