J. L. Doty

J. L. Doty is an American author of science fiction and fantasy from Seattle, Washington. His work spans multiple series, including The Treasons Cycle, a military science-fiction saga beginning with The Thirteenth Man (2012) that follows a disgraced officer navigating interstellar warfare and political betrayal, and fantasy series such as The Blacksword Regiment and The Gods Within. Doty's fiction is characterized by morally gray protagonists caught between competing factions and by settings that blend hard science-fiction warfare with fantasy-tinged mysticism, and he has continued to expand several of these series with new installments and prequels well into the 2020s, including Dread Witch (2024) and Dread Spirit (2024).
