J. M. Miro

J. M. Miro is the pen name of Steven Price, a Canadian poet and novelist born in Victoria, British Columbia, who teaches poetry and fiction at the University of Victoria. Under his own name, Price has published the poetry collections The Anatomy of Keys and Omens in the Year of the Ox and the novels Into That Darkness, By Gaslight, and Lampedusa; By Gaslight was longlisted and Lampedusa shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, and his poetry has won the Gerald Lampert and ReLit awards. As J. M. Miro, he writes a fantasy series that opened with Ordinary Monsters (2022) and continued with Bringer of Dust (2024), marketed and received as a debut despite Price's substantial literary reputation under his own name. The pseudonym let one of Canada's best-known literary writers step into genre fantasy under an unfamiliar name.
