J. R. Dunn

J. R. Dunn is an American science fiction author born in 1953. He began publishing short fiction in the late 1980s and has also worked for decades as an editor for the International Military Encyclopedia. Dunn's novels favor bleak, morally complex speculative futures: his debut, This Side of Judgment, depicts a cyberpunk-inflected dystopian America, while Days of Cain uses time travel to confront the Holocaust, and Full Tide of Night is a space opera reworking the structure of John Webster's Jacobean tragedy The Duchess of Malfi. His fiction returns often to themes of historical inevitability, social collapse, and the long shadow of past trauma on imagined futures, marking him as a distinctive voice in hard-edged, literarily minded American science fiction.
